I was also previously a member of the design team for TEDxTufts 2017. We challenged ourselves to produce visuals and collateral that echoed the TEDx brand, while still standing apart from other TEDx and campus events.
The theme for the 2017 event was rhizomes. In philosophy, this idea referred to a connection of many points while in botany, it referred to the rootstalk of trees. We thought this concept best captured the spirit of TEDx - a broad network of interconnected ideas.
An idea I toyed with was the graphical representation of the philosophical aspect of rhizomes. Each icon represented the different talks that flowed into each other naturally.
Due to the complexity of the term "rhizomes", we decided to proceed with a less abstract representation of rhizomes, instead using the illustration of roots. I designed our subsequent marketing collateral around this idea.
I also designed a pair of posters to publicize a TEDxTufts-hosted viewing of the TEDWomen conference livestream. These posters are consistent with the TEDxTufts brand and convey the significance of centering the voices of women in TED.
These posters did not utilize our event theme and instead adopted TED's branding.
